Cattle Cars

1. Mrs. Schacter's son was probably very distraught at seeing his mother in the state that she was in. The actions of the other people against his mother would have made him feel angry and helpless. There was no way that he could help his mother, except for to be there to try to reassure her of hope. As he watched the other people beating his mother, he felt as though if he intervened, that he would just end up getting hurt as well.

2. The people in the cattle car quickly believed the men with the water because they brought good news. The men had said that they were at the final destination, which was a labor camp where conditions were good, and families would not be separated. This was exactly what the Jews were hoping for. The people were gaining confidence because they finally got news of what would be happening to them. The Jews did not easily believe Mrs. Schacter because not only did she repeatedly scream that there was a fire, but they also did not want to believe there was a fire. If there really had been a fire, it would have been a bad sign of what was to come. All the people on the cattle car were at their last nerve and were scared and nervous about what was happening.

Nice Pic :)!! We agree with the way you answered question 1. On the second question it true that they were gaining confidence. The way that the men with the water were talking about hope and life....good things right? What she brought was death and terror. who would want to believe what she was saying when other people were bringing hope.

I agree, I like how you put question #2. You described the answer well. I think that the young men who hit her to make her become quiet did the right thing. I mean it's wrong to do that, but it's better because then no one else would become crazy and worried the way Mrs. Schacter was.

I agree with everything your group said and I liked what you said

I agree with both of your answers to the questions. If someone was telling you theirs a fire up ahead, you probably talk yourself out of it and call them crazy until you see or smell it yourself.

Jackie G., try to pick out specific things you liked from the posts. I also think that this group is the only one that said something about the men bringing hope to the Jews. This is a good thing.

I agree with your answers i thought they were both good and there was lots of thought into both of them. I also agree with the part were they didn't want to believe there was a fire tell they saw it for them selfs.
