Forgive?

After the holocaust the Jew’s had to decide weather to forgive the Nazi’s or not forgive them at all. Elie shouldn’t forgive the Nazi of the crime they have committed. (at least in my opinion it’s a crime) The Nazi’s killed his mom, his sister and his dad, I know if they killed my family I could never forgive them, a matter how much they begged me to forgive them. While he was at the camps he had to work long hours with out no pay if he stopped he could face the chance of the Nazi’s killing him. He had to watch not only his family die but other Jews die for no reason. Many people would forgive the Nazi’s but I don’t know how they could. The Nazi’s put the Jews through so much and killed million’s of Jews for no reason, he had to live through the pain, the suffering. Then having to watch the Nazi's kill his parents. This is why I couldn’t forgive the Nazi’s, Hitler or the people know days that don’t even believed that this has happened.

If you live for revenge or with hate inside you, you become a bitter monster. The people who are at peace don't harbor hatred within them. I would imagine after having so much pain for so long what you would really want is peace of mind and soul. I totally respect your opinion but at the same time I think if you cannot forgive them, you cannot move on and be a better person.

I dont think i could forgive anyone for killing my family in front of me either, or it would take a great period of time anyway. Though i believe everyone deserves a second chance, dont they? You did a good job answer the question you described a very good point and supported it with good facts.

Yes, if someone killed my family in front of me, maybe at that moment i would never of thought of the word forgiveness. But as time went on, and eachday you had to sit with the pain, don't you think some forgiveness could resolve just some of your pain? I think it could.

It's hard to forgive someone who has wronged you, but you must remember that your not forgiving them for their sake, your forgiving them for your own sake so you can live a peacful life without hatred in your heart.

i think that i would never be able to forgive someone in my family.. Darius your dumb, a Nazi does not deserve a second chance the things they did to those people and the children, i think it's unforgivable...

You did a good job answering the question and supporting your answer. Using a double negative just irks me such as "without no pay" so that just stood out to me. However, it would be very hard for people to forgive the Nazis knowing all the things they did to the Jews. I completely understand your point of view.

You make a very good arguement, but I'm sorry I have to disagree. At the time of the killing of his family I dont think he thought of forgiveness but as time went on I think Elie would have to forgive to live a happy and healthy life. I think that forgiving is really a matter of helping you get through the time not for there sake.

It would be very hard to forgive someone who has killed your loved ones right in front of you. But, in the long run, you have to think of what is best for you. Someone can't live their life in suffering and grief. The only way to get rid of that grief would be to forgive. So I guess if Elie never wants happiness again then he shouldn't forgive. But wouldn't you want happiness for yourself even if it took forgiving you enemies? I would.

Elie did not watch his family die, he only watched his dad. Him and his dad where at a different camp than where his mother and sister. I do think knowing who killed your family would make you hate the person, but with time you would feel the need to forgive the person to move on with your life. A lot of people that go through having a loved one murdered. They almost always in the end forgive the one who murdered their loved one. It is so they can move on and have the memory of their loved one live on in a good way.

I agree with most of this post especially the parts about his family being killed. That would definately be the hardest thing of all to forgive, for me it would be alomst impossible because my family is the most important thing in my life. The only part I would be able to forgive is how they treated me, that would not matter as long as I still have my family with me in the end. All-in-all it was a very good and interesting post.

I agree, it would be extremely hard to forgive people who were capable of killing loved ones. I am very close to my fam and it would kill me. However, In order for me to move on, I would eventually have to forgive or not live at all.

Hatred and violence only cause more hatred and violence. Yes, what the Natzis did was completely heartless. It was beyond evil, beyond sain comprehension. And Elie and all of the millions of other innocent people that suffered have every reason and every right in the world to be angery. But should not we try to learn as much from this horrific event as we possibly can in order to ensure that history does not repeat itself? One of the main reasons why the Natzis did what they did was because they(for some stupid reason) blamed the Jews and other groups for the German loss in WWI. The Natzis had anger in their hearts and refused to forgive the Jews for a crime that they did not even commit. I think that Elie and the rest of those who suffered should forgive the Natzis, not because the Natzis deserve it (because they do not, but rather because it is the right, moral, healthy thing to do and by doing this they prove, even more so, that they are better than the Natzis. Kill them with kindness.
