Won't Forgive or Forget
Elie should not forgive the Nazis for the pain and suffering they put him and the Jews through. To forgive somebody of something is to accept their apology for something they have done and the killing of nearly six million people would be very difficult to look past. The Nazis took away nearly four years of his life as well as his family, the most valuable object in his life and that’s something you can’t get back. How can you forgive somebody for that? Taking a life can never be forgiven, unless it was unintentional. A person cannot be duplicated. The only piece that’s left of the family is the ashes and the memories made before the Holocaust started. You may get your house and valuables back but never again will you have your family and friends in your life. Family means way to much to give them and up and some of the survivors would say, “You don’t know what you got till its gone.”

I totally agree with there is no forgiveness given to anyone who takes your family away from you. and like how you quoted "you don't know what you got till it's gone"
I think this is the most meaningful post I have read so far. I completely agree with you. How could you forgive someone who has taken away your family and basically your sense of pride and belonging?
I agree with you how could you forgive someone that takes four years of your life away and kill your family i can see forgiveness in killing on accident but when they did it on purpose you cant forgive that.
i agree with you smith, how could anyone forgive the Nazis for what they did.
Sure you dont want to accept their apology but that would help you later in life for your self. No one wants to live through life as a bitter person full of hatred and regret. Doesnt everyone deserve a second chance.
I do not agree with you at all. If you were ever in that position, as years went on and the pain would just sit there in your heart, how in the world would you ever not be able to forgive them!!! If you ever want to be semi happy after something like that happened, you have to forgive.
You hold a great point, and i agree that it would be so hard to forgive and a lot of people say they could not do that but forgiveness is a long process,it does not mean you have to forgive them the next day or even the next year forgiveness takes time but i think that it would eat at you until you did forgive them
So I don't really understand what your position is. Are you on the forgiveness side or the hate side? I like what you said, but it just seems... naive. I don't mean that in a negative way but looking at the big picture you have to live your life, you have to think about the future more than the past. You must remember your past but you should also keep the hope for your future with you. You can't move on if you are stuck hating what has happened in your past. You have a whole life to live and thats what they were given, a fresh new life to live. It was their choice whether to live it or hate it, and I would rather live it.
I do agree with you. This is a great post. There is no way you can forgive them, they took your family from you and you will never get them back. I don't know what shes trying to say if you don't forgive them you will never be happy. That is just ridiculous!!! Great post.
I don't agree with this at all. I agree with what Katrina said. You must forgive to have happiness. If he doesn't forgive them then he would life with regret.
You don't necessarily have to accept an apology to forgive someone. In fact, alot of the time forgiveness is something that you do for your own sake. I know i have forgiven people who have done me wrong without ever recieving an apology from them. Erika said it all by saying that you have to live your life and not dwell in the past. I would just be thankful to be alive.
Okay Josh, so if you were in that position, years later after all of the pain and heartache you have, what're you going to do about it? Just sit there and be miserable for the rest of your life! or try to forgive to be happy. You have your opinion and it's something i don't agree with but don't bash my writing or you will get it right back. Respect my opinion and i will respect yours.
I believe that there is a Heaven and that is where my family and I will go. I know that if they shall die then I will see them in the end. I think that if Elie is a religious person then he will believe this also and understand that he will spend the rest of his life with his family. Also as God says you should not be greedy and worry about your valuables that you own. You will not need these things in the end.
katrinalogan, I have had numerous things happen to me in my life and I have had countless people do terrible things to me and I can still tolerate them, but I would not say I have forgiven them. And here I am happy and content with the way my life is.
E-dizzle, why do you call the opposing side the hate side? I chose the topic of not forgiving but I wouldn't say that I chose the dark side or the hate side.... I just think that is the completely wrong way to think about it.
I just think it is my opinion on the situation. I also respect yours and everyone elses.
This is one of the best posts so far. I agree with everything you said. "A person cannot be duplicated", these were the most powerful words in this post. Even though new people are made every day there can never be a replacement for the ones you already lost.
